Meet the 10 artists of the In Situ multidisciplinary residency program
From October 3, 2024 to March 27, 2025, ten international winners (including a duo) will cohabit, create, debate and act. By combining individual and collective work and research time, monthly meetings with cultural actors and studio visits, the Cité internationale des arts and the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation conceive In Situ as a workshop for the production of knowledge and works, which problematizes “the conditions of existence”. We are pleased to welcome the artists of this unique residency led by María Inés Rodríguez.
A committed program, focused on the ecological transition
Since 2020, we have been co-developing with the Cité internationale des arts in Paris, a multidisciplinary artistic residency program. Since 2023, as part of our “Artist, Engaged Citizen” program, In Situ has been putting the ecological transition to work in art. Restitution of the first edition, Ballades féralewas presented in March 2024 with the works of Marina Gioti, Sylvain Gouraud, Mounir Gouri, Haonan He, Gayatri Kodikal, Nuno Da Luz, Ana María Millán, and Aline Xavier: performances, installations and films that address the culture of human domination of the living, the survival strategies of species, the voices of animals, and what will remain of cities after humans.
Working together to achieve “an achievable utopia”
For 6 months, the artists will cohabit, create, debate, act. María Inés Rodríguez places this second edition under the aegis of the visionary Franco-Hungarian architect Yona Friedman (1923-2019). To give meaning to the collective in creative work, she is inspired by her idea of a “critical group”, “a group of people with a common goal, where everyone participates voluntarily and where communication is personal and direct, allows for a more effective exchange of information and a feasible utopia.” A group capable of communicating, exchanging, building “to develop, in a (…) articulated and intersectional, a language consistent with the challenges of our time”.

On the one hand, we will continue discussions on the geopolitical tensions, both historical and current, that are at the root of the ecological and climate crisis and that influence the transition to a circular and climate-neutral society. On the other hand, we will deepen the different working methods and processes underlying this reflection, (…) considering them as opportunities to question reality and highlight various forms of thought and action, from research to critical reflection.

An exemplary system
For these artists, who come from eleven nationalities and work in the fields of visual arts, performance, design and architecture-urbanism, María Inés Rodríguez develops collective work sessions, individual support sessions, monthly meetings with invited personalities and studio visits. In addition, they benefit from the network of the Cité internationale des arts to deploy their research on the national territory. Today, this support for emerging artists of all nationalities residing in the European Union is an exemplary commitment.

In Situ allows artists to change places, to shift their gaze, to take a step back. Being part of a collective forces them to share, to receive, to integrate a dynamic that will contribute to their own work. During the first edition, I saw artists solve formal or conceptual problems, in a very obvious way in the works made for the restitution.

Thank you to the members of the jury
A commission, composed of qualified personalities, studied all the applications. In addition to evaluating the candidate’s professional background, the members of the jury paid particular attention to the quality of the project, the need for an artistic residency in Paris, the envisaged work protocol and the contacts already established or desired.
