A trilingual dive into research at the intersection of arts, design and science

A new magazine with a radical positioning on the image, . able bets on sensory experience as a language capable of speaking to new readers. On November 9, the French edition was inaugurated during an evening at the École des Arts Décoratifs. Now trilingual with the English and Spanish versions, able was presented to a large audience who were able to discover the many articles commented on by their authors, produce their own magazine in a print bar and experiment with an installation-performance where dream and ocean, however unfathomable, mingle and reveal themselves. Also, the celebration of multilingualism will continue in early 2024 in Madrid.

This new step is important for the review. able and its entire network of partners wishing to address readers and contributors well beyond the traditional language barriers of the world of research and academic publishing.

Putting contemporary, environmental and societal issues into perspective and images

“What touches us, what concerns us, concerns us; How can we be more sensitive to it? How can we act and reflect in the face of the endangerment of our environments and societies? How can we do this, not just once, for a case, but by sharing our methods of action? Answering these questions is the challenge of. This is a way that intends to rethink the way of ‘publishing’, making public, raising awareness and mobilising audiences, to make both causes and common consequences,” explains Samuel Bianchini, editor-in-chief. . able is thus a visual, multi-media and free journal that reinvents the forms of publication to make research accessible through images, combining academic excellence, artistic rigour and openness to the general public. This new media publishes between 3 and 5 articles per quarter on various subjects: from the design of sustainable fashion to that of a living micro-architecture, from the dynamics of bacterial contamination to the exploration of deep sleep.

The journal is conceived on the initiative of the Arts & Sciences Chair of the École Polytechnique, the École des Arts Décoratifs and the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation. It is supported by some thirty international academic partners who have come together to publish interdisciplinary research results in an original way that give image its rightful place: including the Royal College of Art in London, New York University, the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the Kwame-Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana and the Intermédiathèque, University of Tokyo Museum.
