Interviews, results, portraits… find at a glance the sustainable food and citizen art projects in France and Spain. Happy reading!
Ongoing commitment
Revealing, supporting, accompanying and connecting women and men who dare to look at the world differently in the fields of sustainable food and civic art: this is the mission of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, which we have been implementing since our creation in 2010. “We would like to express our gratitude to those who contribute directly or indirectly to this mission,” said Marina Nahmias, President, and Benoît Mounier, Managing Director France. “It is together that we will continue this journey towards social transformation and citizen renewal!”
The seeds of this better future are coming to life and taking their place in a multitude of initiatives in France and Spain. In 2023, the Foundation has devoted €14.6 million to 228 sponsorship projects in these 2 countries. In addition, €1.37 million was dedicated to support, networking, the organisation of events and the production of publications. The Foundation has also stepped up its efforts in terms of impact investments in companies with new solutions for a transition to a circular and regenerative economy.
Message from Benoît Mounier, Managing Director France of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation
Towards an ecological and inclusive transformation through sustainable food
In order to promote sustainable food, from seed to compost, the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation has dedicated €7.2 million to 120 grants in 2023. Among the highlights of this year in France, the 4th Sustainable Food Meetings highlighted the importance of cooperation between farmers, researchers, associations and institutions to profoundly transform our systems in favor of fair, solidarity-based, resilient, diversified and ecological agriculture and food.

To enable everyone to have access to sustainable and chosen food; To bring to life a food democracy that allows citizens to increase their skills on environmental issues and impacts, to invite them to pool their resources to build a local social security fund for food, which leaves no one behind, and to allow each actor to live from his or her work. This is what we have started to do and which will be able to be structured and deployed thanks to the Feeding the Future call for projects.

When citizen art mobilizes creation for social change
With a budget of €5.8 million for 86 grants, the Foundation has stepped up its support for the development of citizen art, which plays a crucial role in the development of critical thinking and social ties. Artistic and cultural education, mediation and cultural democracy, artist residencies and support… projects have flourished throughout France. The 6th edition of the call for projects “Composing knowledge to imagine a sustainable future” encouraged collaboration between artists, researchers and citizens to create new imaginaries and solutions to ecological challenges.

What touches us, what concerns us, concerns us; How can we be more sensitive to it? How can we act and reflect in the face of the endangerment of our environments and societies? How can we do this, not just once, for a case, but by sharing our methods of action? Answering these questions is the challenge of .able, which intends to rethink the way of “publishing”, making public, raising awareness and mobilizing audiences, to make both causes and common consequences.
»Samuel Bianchini, Editor-in-Chief of the journal .able.
Shared challenges in Spain
This annual report is also an opportunity to highlight the actions carried out by the Foundation in Spain, which shares common objectives with France while taking into account the specificities of local needs. In terms of sustainable food, for example, in 2023 it continued its Daniel Carasso Fellowship and postdoctoral research program, the Susttenta program which supports agri-food cooperatives and the “Del campo a la Despensa” call for projects which facilitates access to healthier food in the territories. On the side of Citizen Art, she shares the axes of the call for projects “Composing knowledge” which has selected 9 initiatives, support for the international journal .able, but also the Concomitentes program which seeks to respond to societal issues through works created by artists with citizens.
In addition, the Foundation is involved in the rehabilitation of a building in Madrid, a future third place of the social and solidarity economy called “ Infinito Delicias “. ” We believe that innovation, collaboration, imagination and optimism can solve the challenges of today and tomorrow. Inifinito Delicias would like to welcome all organizations and citizens who wish to work with us to experiment with these solutions,” explains Francesco Cingolani, General Manager of Infinito Delicias.
