projets France fondation

For several years, the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation has been supporting sustainable food and community-driven art projects that are making a difference in local communities. More than 300 of these projects are now featured on an interactive map. This is an invitation to take a look at what already exists, discover what’s being developed near you, and explore new paths.

You can now explore the projects supported by our Foundation in recent years on an interactive map. Organizations, collectives, local governments, cultural venues, farmers, artists, and many other stakeholders throughout France are bringing to life the two convictions that drive us: art as a means to contribute to collective empowerment and greater civic engagement; and sustainable food systems to accelerate the transition toward food systems that are fairer, more inclusive, and respectful of people and the planet.

Initiatives That Change Lives

In a world marked by crises and uncertainties, the focus is often on what’s going wrong. Less is said about those who are exploring, experimenting, and building in new ways. “A falling tree makes more noise than a growing forest. We must not forget the growing forest,” as Olivier Hamant, a research director at INRAE and biologist, pointed out in a recent interview.*

Everywhere—in cities, hamlets, farms, theaters, schools, and more—associations, collectives, artists, farmers, researchers, and local communities are experimenting with new ways of working, cooperating, and building a shared future. Everywhere, women and men are taking action. They are helping to bring about concrete solutions: initiatives that support a new generation of farmers, that use art as a means of building connections, that restore a place for citizen participation, or that enable children to grow and thrive. Some work quietly behind the scenes, while others are already making their mark. All of them demonstrate the ability to take action and bring about change, right here and now.

From Roubaix to Agde, via Livinhac-le-Haut, initiatives across France are showing us what’s possible when it comes to bringing about profound change in our societies. The Foundation stands alongside them to help build a more just and sustainable world.

Community art and sustainable food projects are being launched. The map highlights them.

For several years now, the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation has been supporting hundreds of initiatives in France in the areas of sustainable food and civic art, as well as in Spain, where we have also created this tool to highlight these efforts. Observing the diversity of responses to societal challenges—tailored to the realities of each region—opens up powerful avenues for reflection and action. The richness of these initiatives also lies in their diversity and how they complement one another. With this interactive map, we aim to make this diversity more visible and enable everyone to explore these initiatives for themselves.

The Range of Possibilities

Behind these hundreds of initiatives, thousands of people are working toward societal transformation. We present six profiles of women and men who, each in their own way, exemplify an inspiring collective commitment.

Jean-Baptiste Cavalier

National Coordinator of Reneta (Agricultural Test Sites)

“Some want to see if they like the line of work, while others want to assess the economic viability of their project, find out if it’s a good fit for the local area, determine whether they’ll be able to handle the physical demands, or see if this business is compatible with their family life. Our role is to help them test everything they need to test.”
Archipel lucioles

Delphine Lizot

Executive Director of the Archipelago of Fireflies

“Media literacy means engaging with perspectives different from one’s own and recognizing how much this exchange enriches our analytical skills and sharpens our critical thinking. Today, in a highly polarized society where opinions are sharply divided, exposing ourselves to otherness opens up new perspectives and contributes to the empowerment of every individual.”

Morgan Pujol

Head of the Pays Cœur d'Hérault planning and environment department

“The first Regional Meetings on Regenerative Hydrology were intended to build connections among local stakeholders. They highlighted a momentum already at work in our region and a desire to see even more initiatives take shape. Given the strong response they generated, we hope to make this a recurring event and thereby sustain the momentum for change.”
Vélo théâtre

Charlène Chivard

Secretary General of Vélo-Théâtre

“It is a real challenge to show that art can create new ways of telling stories and can drive real change in our society. By creating new narratives grounded in scientific knowledge but infused with an artistic dimension, we foster an experience and understanding that differ from those offered by traditional methods of knowledge transmission.”

Lan Anh Vu Hong

Project Manager at Territoires Fertiles

“With Territoire Fertiles, we’re trying to break down silos and foster dialogue among experts to fuel collective action and accelerate the food transition in local communities. We’re using the internet as a tool to democratize access to knowledge, empower people, and mobilize efforts to restore food as a common good.”

“Artists play a very important role, both in stimulating a desire to learn more about and better understand our region and what connects us to it, and in suggesting courses of action. We no longer see our Vrille Valley the way we used to. We’ve become more engaged: we’ve become advocates for the river, the forests, and the bocage.”
