We welcome Lucía Casani, new director for Spain of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation
The Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation is pleased to welcome Lucía Casani as the new director for Spain. With a long career as director of La Casa Encendida, Lucía will take on this position as of 4 September.
This appointment comes at a crucial time for the Foundation, in the midst of changes and transformations in both Spain and France, with the announced replacements of Marie-Stéphane Maradeix and Isabelle Le Galo. After almost a decade of presence in Spain, the Foundation is in a period of maturity, aligned with the new global strategy 2024-2028 that is being developed by the teams in Spain and France. The incorporation of Lucía Casani as director for Spain completes the renewal of the steering committee, which joins the appointments in the Foundation in France and in the management of el17 – the House of Alliances.
Lucía Casani (Madrid, 1978) has a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the Complutense University of Madrid. Between 1997 and 2001, he participated in different film and advertising projects. In 2002, coinciding with the birth of La Casa Encendida, she joined the centre’s team as Audiovisual Coordinator, a position she held until 2009, when she became head of the institution’s Culture Department. In 2014, the then director of La Casa Encendida, José Guirao, handed over the baton to Casani, who has since strengthened the importance of the institution as a reference space for contemporary Spanish culture and for social and environmental thought and action.
Its commitment to a contemporary and multidisciplinary, intergenerational and accessible programme has transcended from the local to the international sphere, establishing collaborations with institutions around the world, and whose programme has served to shape and question part of our current imaginaries.
We are excited to share and explore new dialogues and avenues of action with Lucía Casani, a leading figure in the culture of the city of Madrid, and to integrate her knowledge and visions into our actions through our two main pillars: Sustainable Food and Citizen Art.
We are eager to take firm steps towards a more inspiring and transformative future.
Welcome, Lucia.
The Foundation’s team.
