Art to come: a new call for artistic creation
With a view to strengthening the artistic fabric, the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation is launching the Arte por venir programme, a new call for creative grants aimed at artists and groups based in Spain that can help us imagine new horizons in the face of the challenges posed by our society. The call will offer up to €25,000 for each of the six selected projects as well as a support and mentoring programme for one year.
In a world full of uncertainty, there are artists capable of showing other ways of inhabiting reality. Thus, their practices become one of the most powerful and inspiring tools for social transformation. Arte por venir wants to support artists with this potential, promoting projects that need help to grow or unfold all their possibilities.
This grant program is not a prize nor is it located in a specific space, but aims to promote artistic creation by offering support and accompaniment, and providing mentoring so that each artist can develop their projects and connect with the community.
“We believe that this new programme will not only support the selection of artists that we carry out but, through the links that we seek to generate during the process, it will also serve as a boost for the set of agents and professionals who are involved in the process”
Lucía Casani
Director for Spain of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation
Each of the six selected projects will receive financial aid of between 20,000 euros for individual artists and 25,000 euros for collectives and will also enjoy a process of accompaniment that will facilitate the development of the proposals and the creation of links between different agents. This advice will include mentoring sessions with professionals chosen by the Foundation, who throughout the year that the program will last, will share with each artist the processes, concerns and challenges that the project is going through.
At the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, we recognize the importance of attending to and caring for creative processes, beyond the final artistic result. These grants do not seek exclusively the creation of a finished work, but are focused on sustaining and accompanying the projects in their different phases, trusting in the gradual transformation of the initial intuitions and in the necessary times of research, experimentation and reflection typical of artistic practices. For this reason, artists and collectives participating in Arte por venir must develop ways to make their processes visible at each stage, including at least three public activities to involve the community and enrich their projects from a collaborative perspective.
The Arte por venir grant programme is aimed at artists of legal age, of Spanish nationality or who reside in Spain and who dedicate their activity to any discipline: architecture, plastic arts, visual arts, living arts, sound art, cinema, dance, music, theatre or any other, also including the intersection between them. The selected projects must be developed in Spanish territory and demonstrate their viability, as well as the fact of having dealt with similar themes previously in their artistic creations will be valued.
This process also arises from the desire to create a learning fabric or community made up of artists, a mentoring team, a Foundation team and project teams supported by it – through its different calls and lines of work – as well as residents, visitors and the team of Infinito Delicias, where one of the three activities carried out to make the process visible will be carried out.
Art to Come was thus born as a program built to help imagine new and more hopeful futures in which art and culture, through a strong and revitalized artistic fabric, collaborate in the creation of tools and imaginaries for a more cohesive and committed society.
