Rethinking the museum from the inside
The project is based on a common question: how to place education and cultural mediation at the centre of museum practice. To address it, the teams involved work continuously, share experiences and review their methodologies.
The device is not conceived as a physical object, but as a conceptual tool. It works as a framework that allows activating processes of research, dialogue and creation with communities linked to each institution. This approach emphasises the intermediate spaces of the museum, its forms of organisation and its relationship with the territory.
The work has been articulated around issues such as the right to the city, cultural participation and the collective construction of knowledge. Each museum has developed the process in its specific context, with groups and communities close to its environment.
Two complementary phases
The project is structured in two main phases.
The first, collected in the publication We are doing it, documents the shared research process. The book takes the form of a workbook and brings together questions, concepts and lessons learned during the meetings. More than a final report, it is an open tool that can guide other cultural and educational teams.
The second phase takes shape in Ando Records, a publishing platform conceived as a device in motion. This label is developed with the accompaniment of artists and explores formats linked to orality, sound and collective experimentation. Its objective is to disseminate materials and experiences generated in the project and facilitate its adaptation to other contexts.
Artistic accompaniment and work with communities
The process has had the participation of artists who have accompanied different stages of the research. Their presence has made it possible to incorporate external views and expand the usual ways of working in education departments.
Each institution has developed actions with communities linked to its environment. These collaborations have served to contrast the tools designed and to test the device in real situations.
