Every Beginning is an Essay, the public program of the Art to Come Residencies

Arte por Venir was born from the commitment of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation to the artistic fabric and its desire to strengthen it through a program of grants and another of residencies aimed at artists who can contribute to imagining new horizons in the face of the challenges of the present, but its objective goes further, opening the space with a public program in which citizens can participate.

Every Beginning is an Essay is the public program that accompanies the Art to Come residencies. In this first edition we have invited the artists to think about the different dimensions that make up a residency: from the spatial to the relational, through its political potential or its ability to generate knowledge and circulate it. This first year is a kind of rehearsal, a kind of test of what a place of coexistence can be. We want to collectively imagine what forms these spaces can take to try alternative ways of inhabiting our presents. What conditions must be met to create a place that favors relationships, care, affection and listening? How can we imagine structures that not only sustain, but also contribute to the construction of community spaces?

Through the public program, we open up the conversations and research that take place in residence to other voices and contexts, expanding their questions and generating new spaces for shared learning

Pepa Octavio de Toledo

Director of the Citizen Art Axis of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation in Spain

Through this program we intend to open the work processes of the artists in residence to share and enrich them through the new conversations that are being woven. It will include study group sessions led by the resident artists themselves, as well as a series of workshops and seminars taught by invited individuals whose research resonates with the topics being explored. It is proposed as a space where we can think together, where we can conspire from different references and languages, and explore ways of moving from reflection to action. A place to try out other ways of being and doing, where coexistence, listening and mutual attention are understood as affective practices of encounter. A small-scale essay on modes of relationship that can be transferred beyond the space of the residence.

The programme will be completed with a series of activities aimed at a wider audience to publicise both the projects of the artists and the guests of the programme.

Every Beginning is an Rehearsal will feature the participation of, among other guests, Andrea Canepa, Nina Glockner, Vir Andres Hera, Juf, Belinda Kazeem-Kamiński, Luz Broto, Lucía Jalón, Leonardo Bürgi Tenorio, Mariana Murcia and Valentina Desideri.
