For fair and sustainable food: a key day in the Congress of Deputies

At the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation we firmly believe that access to fair, healthy and sustainable food is not only a basic need, but a fundamental right that must be guaranteed for all people. In a context marked by deep social inequalities and urgent environmental challenges, promoting fairer and more resilient food systems becomes essential. We are committed to a model that recognises the value of those people who produce, distributes resources equitably and takes care of the environment, placing the dignity of people and the balance of the planet at the centre of public policies.
For this reason, on May 6 we promote, with the support of Ecored Social, the conference The Human Right to Food in Spain under debate: towards a fair, sustainable food policy that guarantees from the field to the table. At this meeting, which will be held in the Congress of Deputies, we will bring together representatives of the political, social and academic spheres with the aim of placing the right to adequate food at the centre of the public agenda in Spain.
The conference will be a space for plural dialogue to address the main challenges and opportunities of the current food system. Through a perspective that incorporates social, economic, environmental, territorial and rights dimensions, it will reflect on how to move towards fairer, healthier and more sustainable models
The program will include a Opening Speech by Ana Moragues, followed by various Round tables in which they will participate institutional representatives, social organisations, third sector entities, agri-food cooperatives and other key agents of the food system. Highlights include the Strategic Food Autonomy from the territory, the role of the sustainable food as a State policy, and the formulation of concrete proposals to advance the right to food as a structural axis of public policies. Dionisio Ortiz will collect the main conclusions of the day through the proposal of a roadmap for the transition to healthier and more sustainable food systems.
With this initiative, the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation reinforces its commitment to the transition towards sustainable and socially just food systems. The conference aims to lay the foundations for a common agenda that promotes a profound transformation of the food system in Spain, from the field to the table, putting people’s well-being and respect for the environment at the centre.
