The Night of Ideas: a regenerating, nurturing, life-giving night
As every year, “The Night of Ideas”, promoted by the French Institute, invites us to approach current knowledge and listen and exchange ideas on the challenges of our time. A party to get to know and delve into the most original proposals of the most diverse cultural agents.
Since 2017 in Spain, “La Noche de las Ideas” has established itself as a special evening for Art and Thought: a true celebration of the exchange of ideas between countries, cultures, disciplines and generations. Promoted by the French Institute of Paris since 2016, this year the Institute’s appointment in Madrid will take place next Thursday, January 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 00:00 a.m.
“Committed to the living”
The night, which has our support from the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, is conceived as a regenerating, caring, life-giving night at a time of severe ecological and human crisis. A space to think and share, eat and refresh, tell and listen, reconnect from joy and criticism with what we are: ecodependent and interdependent beings. It will revolve around the title “Committed to the living”: what does it mean to be alive? What is our place in the world of life? In what way does the fact of being alive oblige us to act and be committed to give meaning to our actions and our existence?
From the approach of sustainability and the care of life on a planet in emergency, a total of four simultaneous participatory workshops will be held between 6:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m., which will be able to value the work of four associations that represent the new ways of committing and sharing in the citizen sphere. The program includes three workshops for adults on: hospitality promoted by Grigri Pixel; another for self-manufacturing of prostheses led by Automanufacturers; a cooking workshop of the Center for Approach to the Rural; and a fourth workshop of Hostia, a book, aimed at children, in which an ecofeminist fanzine will be created. This block will end with the screening of the film Absolute Beginners.
Between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., the Center for Rural Approach will organize “Pica pica” a small tasting and sale fair for small producers with live presentations.
Late in the evening, the debate “Alive in commitment” will surprise with the Algerian writer Yasmina Khadra, the French journalist Caroline Fourest and the Spanish journalist, president of the Spanish section of Reporters Without Borders, Alfonso Armada. The debate will feature the irruption of two stories from Diario Vivo.
Finally, music will be the final protagonist of an encounter for all the senses. The Antropoloops collective will mix different music, making visible the connections between the different worlds.
A true party with the most original proposals not only to listen to, but also to be part of.
