From the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation we are very happy to announce that we are opening the third edition of Complement Directo. With this programme to support higher studies in cultural mediation, we offer 14 scholarships with a financial endowment of 2,200 euros each. The objective of these grants is to support future professionals who decide to train specifically in cultural mediation, thus favoring the professionalization and legitimization of this essential practice to open the cultural ecosystem to the real participation of all people. Applications open until September 14!

Cultural mediation allows citizens to be actively involved, through cultural practices, in the definition and resolution of the challenges and problems of their context, empowering them and enabling a real appropriation of culture by people. At the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, we understand cultural mediation as an indispensable element for cultural democracy.

For this reason, aware of the need to support the figure of the mediator and to promote the professionalization of the sector, we launched two years ago, with an excellent reception and in collaboration with the cultural association hablarenarte, the Direct Complement program.

Through this initiative, open until September 14, we call for 14 scholarships, for an amount of € 2,200 each, with the aim of providing financial aid to students of any nationality interested in carrying out postgraduate studies focused on or linked to cultural mediation in universities or study centers in the Spanish State. during the next academic year 2023-2024.

Artistic mediation is a fundamental activity for all of us to feel part of the cultural ecosystem. With these scholarships we seek to help differentiate, consolidate and specialize an essential profession to make culture a common good.

Direct Complement goes beyond economic support. It is a community that supports, builds and learns with students. For this reason, each of these grants is completed with an individual and collective mentoring programme by professionals in the sector, in order to enrich and add value to the training of each of the scholarship recipients, as well as to promote the generation of relevant networks for their professional development. The contents of all the sessions are established in a participatory manner by the scholarship holders, seeking to provide the maximum possible value to the training of each of them and always trying not to repeat issues already dealt with in their respective studies. Professionals such as Javier Rodrigo (Transducers), Sofía de Juan (Prado Museum), Ana Andrés (Fundación Cerezales) or AMECUM, among others, have been in charge of some of the collective sessions in previous editions.

In addition, during previous editions of Complement Directo, the scholarship recipients have had online monitoring and face-to-face meetings in Madrid where they have been able to meet and share experiences, visions and concerns about cultural mediation, professional development or the precariousness suffered by the sector.

In the last edition, Complement Directo has reinforced its face-to-face nature and we have been able to build a community from the first joint session, which has allowed us to open new itineraries and detours that make cultural mediation a lush and living ecosystem. To make a forest with the mediators of this program year after year is lucky.

To access, interested persons must be pre-registered in the studies for which the scholarship is requested at the time of formalizing the application. Priority will be given to people with greater economic difficulties and also to those applications linked to master’s or postgraduate degrees whose contents are especially aligned with the general approach of this call. In addition, cultural diversity, gender, profiles and trajectories, as well as destination universities, will also be assessment criteria in the selection process.

The application for participation in the program can be made through the platform enabled on the hablarenarte website. A pre-selection committee made up of members of the Foundation, hablarenarte and external cultural mediators will be the ones who will study the documentation presented in the applications and its suitability to the objectives of the program. The final selection will be made by a jury made up of recognized professionals in the field of culture and mediation.

Thanks to Complement Directo I was able to embark on the University Expert Course in Cultural Management and Innovation in Santiago de Compostela, which gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in the Galician cultural context. This experience has been enriching because I was able to explore the future of cultural management with my colleagues and also because I was able to delve into the central role that mediation will have in the construction of that future

MATÍAS DAPORTA GONZÁLEZ, STUDENT BENEFICIARY OF DIRECT COMPLEMENT
