Dining room of the center for the elderly and community housing of Asparrena

Project that transforms the dining room of the Rural Day Care and Community Housing Center of Asparrena (Álava) to introduce local and seasonal foods and move towards a sustainable food model. The service, which serves about 20-26 elderly people every day, becomes a space for change to connect the center’s food with the agricultural production of the region. The initiative combines three lines of action: adapting the menus and purchases of the dining room, facilitating the incorporation of local producers and promoting awareness-raising activities aimed at the community. The process is promoted by the Asparrena City Council and the Lautada Rural Development Association, with the support of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation within the framework of its call on territorialized food systems 2020.
