Socially engaged art
Collective project to reactivate an abandoned space in the Madrid neighbourhood of San Cristóbal de los Ángeles. Autobarrios SanCristóbal sought to reinvent the use of that place and turn it into an urban space for the youth of the neighborhood and for the rest of the neighborhood, based on the joint work between local associations and other agents in the environment. It was commissioned in January 2012 and construction of the space was completed in May 2014. Promoted by Basurama, the initiative combined physical recovery of the environment, construction of multipurpose structures and social and cultural activation of the space. Its development included painting interventions (in the image, collaboration with Boa Mistura), soil conditioning and training for young people in the neighbourhood linked to cultural management and the use of recovered space. The Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation supported this initiative in 2015, within its Citizen Art axis.
