Socio-ecological regeneration of public space

The project starts from a central question: how to transform the design and construction of public space to respond to the social and environmental challenges of contemporary cities. Its approach puts the public at the heart of the process, both as users of these spaces and as agents involved in their care and improvement.

The initiative is part of Componer Saberes, a biennial call by the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation that promotes collaboration between the artistic and scientific communities and the public to address eco-social challenges through transdisciplinary approaches.

Participatory research and pilot projects

One of the main lines of work is to develop a participatory research process to identify the public’s concerns and knowledge needs in relation to public space. Building on this work, researchers, public administrations and partner organisations are brought together to compare diagnoses and build shared responses.

The project also pilots urban transformation experiences in different contexts. These actions make it possible to explore design approaches that incorporate social, ecological and cultural dimensions into the planning and management of shared spaces.

Another expected outcome is the development of an action plan for the socio-ecological regeneration of nearby public space, conceived as a working tool open to new place-based collaborations.
