Sustainable food

Coexist through the territory

Moving food structures towards more territorial models is the axis of the Coexist for the territory project. Strategies for the revaluation of small native mountain ruminants, an initiative that seeks to stop food relocation and the decline of extensive livestock farming in Sierra Mágina (Jaén). The central objective is to consolidate the productive presence of the Serrana White Goat, Serrana Black Goat and Montesina Sheep breeds in their territory of origin, to promote the consumption of their products in local circuits and to measure the environmental benefits of traditional grazing systems.

Territorial alliances and measurement of services

This action is deployed with technical and strategic contributions from the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation within its Territorialized Food Systems program, through an alliance led by the National Association of Breeders of Andalusian White Breed Goats (ABLANSE) together with the Association of Serrana Black Goat (ANCCA), the Association of Montesina Sheep (ACRIMON) and the City Council of Huelma.

The project contemplates the creation of indicators that allow the evaluation of the ecosystem services of grazing, as well as studies on the quality and social acceptance of the products generated by these herds, presented to producers and technicians in recent advances of work in the territory.
