Socially engaged art
Process of improvement of housing and coexistence spaces in a social housing neighbourhood of San Juan de Aznalfarache (Seville). Convivial Neighbourhoods works with the neighbourhood to identify everyday problems in the residential environment and develop solutions to the climate and social challenges that affect these enclaves. The initiative addresses a widespread reality in Spain: a large part of the residential stock built between the 1950s and 1980s has serious bioclimatic deficiencies and maintenance difficulties, factors that can aggravate urban vulnerability processes. Through workshops, collective diagnoses and actions in public space, the project explores improvements in housing and in the spaces of relationship in the neighborhood. The initiative brings together the social architecture cooperative Cotidiana, the City Council of San Juan de Aznalfarache, the local delegation of the Assembly of Cooperation for Peace, the public company of Social Housing of Seville and the schools of architecture of Malaga and Seville. The project has the support of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation and is part of its Citizen Art axis, which promotes cultural practices aimed at strengthening participation, care for the environment and social cohesion in the territories.
