Sustainable food
The development of public food policies in Menorca was the focus of this project, based on the principles of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact. The work analysed the production, distribution and consumption of food on the island and combined a diagnosis of the food system with interviews with public officials and spaces for participation that brought together representatives of the agricultural sector, distribution and the social sphere. The results gave rise to the Menorca Food Strategy, a roadmap with measures to strengthen local production, improve public food procurement and promote more sustainable consumption habits. Promoted by the Menorca Island Council, the initiative had the technical and economic support of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, in collaboration with Justicia Alimentaria. The project was selected in the Territorialised Food Systems call (now extinct), within the Foundation’s Sustainable Food axis.
