Diagnosis for the opening of commercial routes to local products – La Gomera

The project analyses the local production of vegetables and seasonal fruit on the island of La Gomera, basic garden foods and fruit trees for local consumption. The study is carried out in a context where a large part of agricultural production is subsistence and food supply depends to a large extent on imports. From this starting point, it examines the situation of small producers, the volume of production available and the current distribution and sales circuits within the island territory. The initiative, promoted by the Island Association for Rural Development of La Gomera (AIDER-La Gomera), prepares a diagnosis of the island’s food system with the aim of identifying opportunities to create short marketing circuits and evaluate their viability for small producers. The project also proposes proposals adapted to the territory to improve joint marketing and strengthen the population’s access to local food. It has an initial duration of two years and is co-financed by the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation within its Sustainable Food axis, aimed at strengthening territorialized food systems and access to healthy and local food.
