Sustainable food
Social awareness project promoted by the documentary Itsasoiko. Itsasotik sasoikoa as a starting point to open a debate on the future of artisanal fishing in the Basque Country and its role in the construction of more local and fair food systems. The initiative organises screenings and meetings in different towns on the Basque coast to collectively reflect on the link between day fishing, local consumption and the sustainability of marine ecosystems.
The documentary, directed by Eneko Bachiller and David Lopategi and with a screenplay by Julen Zubiete, is part of a collaboration between the Ondarroa 12 Milia and Bizilur associations, with production by Zirriborro Produkzioak and support from the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation within its Sustainable Food axis. Through testimonies from the sector and coastal communities, the film introduces questions about the place that artisanal fishing can occupy in contemporary food systems and about the collective decisions necessary to keep this activity linked to the territory.
