Socially engaged art
Project that investigates the cultivation of hops in the province of León to explore new uses of the plant and agricultural waste through processes of art, science and citizen participation. Cultivating Cultures: Hop Ecologies works with hop communities, researchers and cultural agents to study the memory of the crop, experiment with biomaterials derived from hops and generate new possibilities for the use of the plant in the territory. Developed between 2021 and 2023 in Carrizo de la Ribera, the project is part of the 2019 Composing Knowledge to Imagine and Build Sustainable Futures call of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, within its Citizen Art axis. Through field research, workshops, biocultural archives and material experimentation, the initiative seeks to preserve the knowledge linked to hop cultivation and explore circular bioeconomy ways from plant waste .
