Socially engaged art
Yo Cuento is a theatrical laboratory and artistic-health project developed at the Niño Jesús Children’s Hospital in Madrid that uses the performing arts to accompany children with neurological diseases, as well as their families and health personnel. Born in 2021 from a joint initiative of neuropediatricians, artists and family members, the project seeks to create a space for collective creation in which patients tell their own stories and transform the social perception of the disease and hospitalization. The program has developed shows such as Radiographs and Without Benches, has had the collaboration of professionals from the National Dance Company, and has been observed as a tool for inclusion and emotional well-being in clinical environments. The support of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, through the call Alliances for a Cultural Democracy, contributes to documenting and researching the impact of these interventions and to consolidating the figure of the artistic mediator in social and health contexts.
