Sustainable food
Municipal project and strategy that designs a plan to strengthen agricultural production in La Horta and improve access to local food in the city. The work gathers information on existing initiatives, identifies needs of the agri-food sector and proposes measures to strengthen short circuits and the consumption of local products. The initiative follows Valencia’s accession in 2015 to the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact, an international agreement that encourages cities to develop local food policies. The work is specified in the Comprehensive Action Plan for the Promotion of Territorial and Municipal Agricultural Activity and in the creation of a municipal food council where administrations, producers, social organizations and companies in the sector participate. The strategy is promoted by the Valencia City Council together with CERAI, Justicia Alimentaria, Mundubat and the Tierra Ciudadana Chair, with the support of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation within its Sustainable Food axis.
