Socially engaged art
An educational project of the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) that transfers the experience of contemporary art to primary education and special education classrooms through correspondence sent by post. The proposal displays a series of submissions with instructions conceived by contemporary artists and accompanied by support materials for teachers, with the purpose of activating creative exercises, provoking reflections and generating complicity between students and teachers outside the usual frameworks of school pedagogy. The project is inspired by mail art practices and movements such as Fluxus and Dada, which explored correspondence as a means of art distribution in the 1960s and 1970s. At the end of each participation, the school builds a small art collection made up of the pieces and exercises worked on during the course, thus integrating a unique educational experience. The Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation supports this initiative within its Citizen Art axis, which brings contemporary creation closer to educational communities and public spaces.
