Local crop varieties for sustainable food systems in Andalusia

The project Promoting sustainable food systems in Andalusia through local crop varieties analyses how these traditional varieties are produced, marketed and consumed and develops actions to promote their presence in agriculture and food markets. The work combines social research, nutritional analysis and public activities to know the profile of consumers, map existing experiences and improve the identification and valuation of these crops. The initiative includes more than sixty activities, including studies on the marketing context, tastings and information actions at points of sale, coordination with organic production networks and reflection groups among farmers to facilitate the agroecological transition. The project is promoted by the Andalusian Seed Network Cultivating Biodiversity, with the participation of European research entities and networks, and was developed between 2017 and 2020 in Andalusia and France with funding from the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation within its Sustainable Food axis.
