Sustainable food
Agriculture sustains the economy of the Jerte Valley, with cherry cultivation as a central activity and source of income for more than 3,000 families. The cooperative model and the characteristics of the territory have made it possible to maintain a competitive position. However, the pressure of international markets forces us to look for new strategies that strengthen the economic and social viability of the sector. In this context, a group of producers is promoting the transition to agroecology and promoting local transformation initiatives linked to artisanal cheese making, organic farming or local public procurement. The project has the support of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation within the framework of its Sustainable Food axis and seeks to strengthen the governance of the Soprodevaje Local Action Group, made up of the main public, economic and social entities of the valley, to consolidate a more resilient agri-food model rooted in the territory.
