Socially engaged art
A shared workspace between art, science and culture of “do it yourself” (DIY) and “do it with other people” (DIWO) applied to biological exploration. Prototyp_ome brought together artists, researchers and communities linked to technological experimentation in Barcelona to review, co-design and develop low-cost tools and processes oriented, in its early years, to to diagnosis and self-management of health. Promoted by Hangar and the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park, the project was part of the first edition of Composing Knowledge, a call from the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation. Its activities include residencies in the Hangar laboratory and work stays in research laboratories at Pompeu Fabra University, such as the one developed by Quimera Rosa to advance open photodynamic therapy tools, as well as training in laboratory safety and work with cell cultures.
