Context and objectives
Alimentta was established as an association of experts to articulate scientific and social evidence that supports decisions based on food and sustainability data. The project is based on diagnoses of the dysfunctionalities of the current food system in Spain, including the fragmentation between production and consumption, the environmental pressure of conventional practices and the lack of governance mechanisms that favour resilient models. The think tank works to influence policies that reconnect productive practices and healthy diets consistent with the sustainability of ecosystems and communities.
Areas of work and priorities
Alimentta’s work is organized into thematic priorities considered strategic for the food transition. These include the promotion of the cultivation of local legumes with ecological and nutritional potential, local fishing with low environmental impact and high social value, and the articulation of healthy consumption guidelines based on fresh, local and seasonal products. The organization also promotes Local Food Systems with an Agroecological and Healthy Base to strengthen short supply and demand circuits and reduce external dependencies.

Production of knowledge and resources
Alimentta disseminates research, reports, and public policy tools that analyze the food system from multiple angles. These resources include policy briefs on sustainable fishing and organic legumes, a decalogue with recommendations for healthy and sustainable eating and a comprehensive report on the situation of the Spanish food system with future scenarios. The organization also produces a podcast that explores the links between production, consumption, climate change, and public policy, incorporating expert voices and transdisciplinary analysis approaches.
Linkage and dissemination strategies
Alimentta’s structure combines academic research with the participation of collaborative networks and dialogue with social actors and political decision-makers. This approach seeks to place knowledge on public agendas and favor policies that integrate human health, social justice, and environmental sustainability. The organization participates in initiatives that strengthen the exchange of experiences and learning between territories, such as agroecological research networks and spaces for sectoral articulation.
