Daniel Carasso Fellowship, a new impetus given to research on Sustainable Food

New Narratives
Share on :

After 3 editions of the Premio Daniel Carasso, our Foundation has just launched the Daniel Carasso Fellowship in Spain to give a new impetus to systemic research on Sustainable Food. With this new programme, we want to support young researchers of all nationalities and scientific disciplines, while consolidating the development of research in this field in Spain. This grant confirms our commitment to supporting research as an essential and complementary way to actions in the field to promote universal access to healthy food, respectful of people and ecosystems. The call for applications is open until 5 March!

Supporting the research sector in Spain

We decided to launch the Daniel Carasso Fellowship programme in a context marked in Spain by the gradual reduction of public budgets dedicated to the research, development and innovation sector. This reduction generates, among other effects, an exodus of young researchers abroad, a weakening of the research fabric in Spanish universities and centres, as well as a greater difficulty in attracting foreign talent.

This grant supports researchers and research in Spain, without losing its international character. With a budget of €160,000, it will finance the hiring and development of research activities in a Spanish university or centre for a period of 2 years. Dedicated to sustainable food research from a systemic perspective, it promotes synergies between different fields and disciplines that are generally disconnected, such as nutrition and agriculture.

Beyond supporting talented researchers at the beginning of their scientific careers, the ultimate objective of this fellowship program is to develop, over the years, an international community of researchers ready to combine their efforts in favor of the transition to sustainable food systems.

We are very pleased to launch this initiative to support Sustainable Food and young researchers. The Daniel Carasso Fellowship is an opportunity to attract and consolidate research talent in Spain. The program will contribute to the career development of outstanding young researchers, whose contributions to society will guide the transition to sustainable food systems.

A commitment over time

Created as part of our strategy to accelerate the transition, the Daniel Carasso Fellowship aims to encourage applied research and knowledge production, as well as to generate networks and opportunities for collaboration between research groups in Spain and France. He takes over from Premio Daniel Carasso who, for 3 years, has rewarded senior researchers developing transdisciplinary approaches in the study of the sustainability of food systems.

Through various action programs and the promotion of scientific research, our foundation supports pioneering initiatives in the field of Sustainable Food, from seed to compost, to promote universal access to healthy food, respectful of people and ecosystems.

The Daniel Carasso Fellowship is a pioneering initiative in Spain, designed to attract talent and excellence, which offers a magnificent opportunity to join a network of research relationships of the highest international academic level. The transition to sustainable food systems is an essential component for a change in the economic and social model that allows us to adapt to the enormous climate challenges that lie ahead.
