Art to include, bring together and transform our societies
Placing art and culture at the heart of citizen participation
We promote art and culture as forces of citizenship and collective emancipation, by supporting artists, cultural actors and territories committed to a more harmonious, united society that respects diversity. We think of citizen art as a way of inhabiting the world: a practice that connects, listens and proposes. Art is born in everyday life (in a classroom, in a square, in a museum…) and blossoms when different voices come together to create and invent together. We defend an art that awakens our critical eye and reinforces living together, to forge links rooted in respect and diversity. Art is not only an aesthetic object: it is a civic act that questions, promotes empathy and engages individual and collective participation.
We promote the integration of artistic practices into lifelong learning, in order to nurture the sensitivity, creativity and critical thinking of tomorrow’s citizens. Our priorities in France are:
-
To enable children and young people from territories with fewer opportunities to access quality arts and cultural education programmes.
-
Strengthen the capacities of elected officials and cultural leaders to design and implement ambitious public policies in favor of artistic and cultural education.
We work to reduce inequalities in access to culture, by supporting collective initiatives that promote citizen participation and transform territories through art. Our priorities in France are:
-
To support the creation of works resulting from citizen commissions in territories with few cultural resources, in order to strengthen the participation of inhabitants and to renew forms of artistic intervention in the public space.
- Stimulate citizen, artistic and institutional alliances in rural areas to co-design areas for collective expression and territorial transformation.
We encourage collaboration between artists, scientists and citizens in order to develop innovative projects that respond, through creativity and knowledge, to the major challenges of our time, such as the ecological transition and social justice. Our priorities in France are:
- To promote collaborations between arts and sciences rooted in the territories, involving citizens to imagine the ecological and social transition.
- To support and federate exemplary places that promote art-science dialogue to inspire, pool and disseminate sustainable practices in the service of the transition of the cultural sector.
We support artists in their mission of social, civic and ecological transformation, and accompany the organizations around them, to strengthen their impact on people, territories and society. Our priorities in France are:
- Promote inclusion in art schools by supporting accessibility, diversity of talent and the employment of artists with disabilities.
- Help artists professionalize their practices, strengthen their social and civic impact, and transform territories through creation, by providing financial support to venues that host them.
Impactful projects
Inspiring citizen art projects, capable of responding to contemporary challenges.
In France and Spain, we affirm that culture is a common good and a lever towards new rights. This is why we promote access to art for those who are far from it, we strengthen mediation and build bridges between creation, education and scientific knowledge. When art meets school or research, new languages emerge to understand and respond to ecological and social challenges.
