Socially engaged art
The project proposes to create a common cultural route between A Veiga (Ourense) and Porto (Zamora), two mountain municipalities in an extreme situation of depopulation. Promoted by Outonía S. Coop. Gal, the City Council of A Veiga and the City Council of Porto, No límite da Serra was selected in 2026 in the fourth edition of Alliances for a cultural democracy, within the axis of Citizen Art. The initiative is articulated in three “cultural lines of desire”. Non é unha serra que son cinco proposes a space for thought to imagine a cartography of the mountain range of the future; Behind the scenes takes this cartography to the textile field and recovers the traditional technique of loom weaving, and From the mountain to the table works with the culinary memory of the Serra Calva to create a collective recipe book and celebrate a popular food-ritual. The three lines converge in a celebration protocol that the project calls “ritual of transmutation of the border”, designed to strengthen the cultural connections between the two municipalities beyond the administrative limit that separates them.
