Socially engaged art

We participated in the creation of ARTE Education
It is a pleasure to announce the participation of our foundation in the creation of the subsidiary ARTE Education, of the ARTE France chain, together with the Caisse des Dépôts via the Banque des Territoires and les Investissements d’Avenir, to accelerate the development of the Educ’ARTE service. A project that we are particularly excited about and links with our work in the field of Art and Education, in France and Spain.
This investment is the first that we have made within the framework of our strategy of “investments with social impact” ( or Impact investing) that is related to the Citizen Art line. Our Impact Investing strategy seeks to strengthen the coherence between our investments and social missions.
Art as a pillar of citizenship and agent of change
Through our Citizen Art line, we accompany organizations that mobilize to make art a relevant agent in our society, which allows us to rethink and face contemporary social challenges.
The decision to contribute to the development of Educ’Arte is not accidental but is in line with the “Art and Education” programme that we are developing, which aims to strengthen access to and transmit art in all its forms, in France and Spain.
Our line of action “Art and School” aims precisely to generalize artistic and cultural education. We encourage the experimentation of pedagogical approaches that include all students and involve all teachers, through concrete projects on the ground in our two countries.
What is Educ’ARTE?
At the beginning of the 2017 academic year, ARTE France launched Educ’ARTE, a subscription-based digital service (on-demand television) for teachers and students. A video catalogue with more than 1000 complete audiovisual programmes, organised by subjects (Literature/Philosophy, History-Geography, Science, etc.) and school levels, available in several languages, as well as innovative pedagogical tools that allow users to personalise the videos of ARTE and its partners (France Télévisions, INA, Radio France, SACEM Université…) to watch and adapt them in class, at home and from any fixed or mobile screen.
Almost 1,000 schools have contracted this service in France and in Europe, specifically in Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg, where all the institutes have subscribed. Together they represent around 500,000 students and teachers. Centres can subscribe directly or through local administrations.
A common knowledge base for all students
In an education sector in the midst of digital mutation, supporting the development of Educ’ARTE and proposing new versions of this service is an effective way to reach European students at all school stages, from primary education to the higher stages.
From this shared desire arises the creation of a joint venture between ARTE France Développement and the General Secretariat for Investment (SGPI) which reports to the Prime Minister and also has the support of the Ministries of Culture and National Education through the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations and as part of the Future Investment Programme (PIA, for its French acronym). The institution holds a 33.3% stake in ARTE Education. Our Foundation joins by contributing 6.7% of the capital.
ARTE Education makes it possible to strengthen ARTE’s actions for the benefit of young Europeans in order to make available to all students, regardless of their social or geographical origin, a common knowledge base, mainly cultural, in which the European values promoted by the channel prevail.
An innovative social impact investing strategy
In both France and Spain, we have been developing a strategy of “impact investing” in both for-profit and non-profit entities. In fact, in collaboration with the Quadia office, we created a fund dedicated to Sustainable Food. The participation in the capital of ARTE Education is the first impact investment we have made within the framework of our Citizen Art line.
