Context and purpose
The proposal for Social Food Security is born from the recognition of structural barriers that hinder regular access to agroecological products, especially in the face of the increase in prices in the shopping basket. The concept takes as a reference similar approaches to medical social security, but applied to the food field, with the aim of ensuring that all people can access healthy and sustainable food without price being an obstacle.
Getafe: pilot experimentation
Between February and November 2026, Getafe will implement the first Spanish pilot project for Social Food Security. The experience is being developed in collaboration with the agroecological cooperative supermarket Biolíbere and funding from the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation.
A total of 30 people will be selected by lottery and will receive a monthly allowance of 100 euros to purchase products in the supermarket. El piloto incluye formación y actividades vinculadas a la seguridad alimentaria, así como un seguimiento de la evolución de hábitos alimentarios de las personas participantes.

Governance and participation
The pilot incorporates a governance body that integrates local producers and local civil society actors.
Evaluation and projection
The evaluation of the pilot will focus on measuring the influence of the economic allocation on the eating habits of the beneficiaries, on their perception of the right to food and on the systemic impact on the management of the supermarket and its network of producers. The experience seeks to generate evidence that can feed the design of public policies aimed at guaranteeing regular access to healthy and sustainable food in other contexts.
