Food that looks after us and the planet
Sustainable food
We accelerate the transition to fair and sustainable food systems, guaranteeing healthy food for all, respectful of people and ecosystems, and creating strong links between production, citizenship and territories.
We believe food plays a crucial role in supporting societies and their development. Each product we cultivate, share, prepare or consume reflects the relationship we have with nature and the people around us. If that relationship breaks, our health and the balance of ecosystems are also affected. Strengthening it paves the way to a fairer, more conscious, and united society.
Programs in action
Strategic guidelines for sustainable food in Spain.
Our commitment is manifested through two lines of action: supporting the integration of new generations of farmers into agroecology with expert guidance, and accelerating transition in farms through improved cultivation methods and knowledge-sharing networks among agricultural professionals.
We reinforce the dynamics linking production, processing and consumption within each territory, fostering greater cohesion and value in local food systems. We enhance the operational capacity of the territorially rooted agri-food industry and support its scaling up.
To accomplish this, we activate learning spaces that foster, spread, and reinforce sustainable eating habits in restaurants, collective and school canteens, neighbourhoods, and community kitchens. We support actors with the ability to transform the system (restaurants, local businesses, school canteens, community kitchens, healthcare sector, and authorities) in their transition towards sustainable consumption models. And we activate citizen mobilisation as a catalyst for change through experimental dynamics that test solutions and pave the way for new governance models linked to food systems.
We enhance the visibility and spread of scientific knowledge, practices, and ideas on sustainable food; we weave networks and collaborations among researchers, policy makers, and actors in the field to turn evidence into decisions and projects, and we amplify inspiring initiatives that transform social representations and activate citizen engagement.
Daniel Carasso Fellowship
Postdoctoral grant for research in sustainable food. A decisive boost for the consolidation of the careers of scientists committed to the transformation of our society through food. The grant covers the salary and expenses of the research project carried out in Spanish universities or research centers for two years.
Experiences with an impact
Relevant sustainable food projects, backed by strong evidence and valuable insights for replication.
unoconcinco, an annual event to articulate the agroecological transition
Annual meeting promoted by the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation that brings together, in Madrid, agents from the entire food chain. The project provides a forum for debate, workshops and practical experiences on agroecological transition, public policies, investment and communication. Its aim is to accelerate the shift towards sustainable food systems that are consistent with the 1.5°C limit of global warming.
